The figure of Xabier Lete (1944-2010) is known and respected all around the Basque Country. He was a notable poet and his songs, like many others created by singers of that time, endure in the collective memory of Basque men and women. There is no doubt that Lete's work retains great literary, musical and cultural interest.
Txori kantazale brings together words and piano music. It offers the opportunity to enter into Lete's universe and to get to know that artistic space from within.
The central axis is marked by a one-hour musical narration. In that tour we offer reworkings of Lete's songs as well as popular and classical melodies that the poet loved. We walk among his texts, observing known and unknown poems, and we wonder Lete's life paths together.
We conceive Txori kantazale not as a show but as an intimate encounter to delve into the inner world of the poet and singer. Joana Otxoa de Alaiza has recreated Lete's poetic universe through the black and white of the piano: her music will guide us along Lete's paths. Alex Gurrutxaga’s explanations and recitations will accompany us along the way.
The Uskola - Otxoa de Alaiza duo was formed because of a shared passion for discovering literature for voice and piano. The duo was founded in 2020 and it has delved into this field with the maestro Maciej Pikulski.
Their concerns lead them to explore a wide diversity in their repertoire, from the baroque to the 21st century, always trying to offer a program with an angular theme, which will interest a heterogeneous audience.
